CAMPAIGN #ItsNotFair Series-1

Let me tell you a #ItsNotFair story!

This is an inspiring campaign that I’ve spearheaded that stands for equality and against discrimination based on the colour of a woman’s skin.

I’m working with interesting women from different walks of life who enrol to this vision and play muse to my work which speaks for equality, portraying inner beauty and against discrimination..
Proud to present my first ever Personal Project #ItsNotFair which accidentally triggered while I was having a conversation with my 9-year old daughter where she described her friend as the one who is very fair when I could not recollect who she was by her name. This made me ask my daughter if she likes her complexion as she is on the wheatish side. Thankfully she said yes!

I was double minded if I did the right thing by asking her that question as she is a small girl, but as you know discrimination starts very young and it could start at school, society, relatives or even the worst case , your own family.

I have started these series with an aim that I do something for this and to educate people that beauty is not the way they have been told and one need not be fair to look beautiful.

It’s not fair that you were unhappy when I was born.

You thought my colour and my gender would bring you nothing, but miseries.

But look where I have come!

It’s not fair, when you compared and told me my good wishes did not get you a job.

It started all from there.

But look where I have come.

It’s not fair, when you gave me skin-lightning products hoping it will change your and my fate.

Trust me,It only damaged my skin at an early age.

But look where I have come.

It’s not fair, when you broke up with me because you had issues with my skin.

Today I feel good about your the then decision.

And look where I have come.

It’s not fair, my friend, when you told me,

“No one will marry you!” Clearly, you were wrong.

And look where I have come.

Debunking all your believes,

I grew up only stronger and bolder.

I am comfortable and confident than ever-

And look where I have come.

You have been unfair and you know that.

Time you change your believes.

Open up your mind and learn,

Learn to appreciate every shade and size.

It’s mine and your story.

Let’s push our boundaries and learn more.

Let’s give beauty a new definition.

Let’s stop being unfair.

I am doing my bit to educate the people that fairness is not the criteria to be called beautiful. I have started this movement and doing these shoots to show that beauty is skin-deep and it’s not easy for me to take out time from my assignments and do this.
